Excavator Bucket Sizes & Capacity Chart by Tonnage (1–50 Ton)
Complete width, struck/heaped m³ capacity, and tooth system chart for 1–50 T excavators.
Excavator bucket size is matched to your machine's operating weight and material density. Mini excavators (1–3.5 T) typically run 200–300 mm (8–12 in) trenching buckets, 450–600 mm (18–24 in) digging/skeleton buckets, and 900–1200 mm (36–48 in) grading buckets. Mid-size 20-ton excavators run 900–1200 mm (0.8–1.2 m³) general purpose or rock buckets.
Excavator Bucket Width & Capacity Reference Chart (1–40 T)
Matching Bucket Width to Jobsite Application
For fiber optic, electrical, and water line installation, choose a narrow trenching bucket (200–300 mm) to minimize backfill volume. For general foundation excavation and truck loading, a standard 450–600 mm (mini) or 1000–1200 mm (20T) general purpose bucket balances breakout force and cycle fill factor.
When to Step Up to NM400 or Hardox 450 Rock Buckets
If you are digging in blasted limestone, granite, cobble, or demolition concrete, standard Q355B buckets will wear rapidly along the cheek plates and bottom straps. Upgrading to a severe-duty rock or skeleton bucket with NM400 or Hardox 450 wear liners extends service life by 3× to 4×.
